Vancouver, BC – September 18, 2012 – TAXI is excited to announce their partnership with CKNW Orphans’ Fund for Pink Shirt Day 2013. The Vancouver agency has agreed to donate 500 agency hours towards the anti-bullying campaign.
The first Pink Shirt Day in BC was organized in 2008 by CKNW AM980 radio station in Vancouver. CKNW was inspired by the story of two Nova Scotia students who stood up to a bully in their school by wearing pink and encouraging their classmates to do the same. Five years later, the Pink Shirt Day campaign continues to raise awareness and provide education and funds for anti-bullying programs in BC and Western Canada.
Kevin Barclay, ECD TAXI West says, “Bullying is a serious and ongoing issue, whether it’s happening in the classroom, online or even in the workplace. If we can spare even one victim then it’s worth it for us to do what we can to help foster this indispensible campaign”.
“In 2012, over 58,000 t-shirts were sold (with 100% of net proceeds going to Boys and Girls Clubs throughout Western Canada). In 2013, our goal is to sell even more t-shirts than last year. We are familiar with and admire TAXI’s work; therefore we are delighted that they’ve agreed to join forces. Having that caliber of creative aptitude available to us is game changing ” explains Jen Schaeffers, Executive Director, CKNW Orphans’ Fund.
The recharged campaign will roll out in early 2013. To get started, TAXI will work on developing a new Pink Shirt Day logo along with an integrated communications campaign including print, digital, social and radio media channels.

About Pink Shirt Day: In 2007, two Nova Scotia students decided to take action after witnessing a younger student being bullied for wearing a pink shirt to school. The students bought 50 pink t-shirts and encouraged schoolmates to wear them and send a powerful message of solidarity to the bully. CKNW were inspired by the story and to date have raised more than $300,000 for Boys & Girls Clubs anti-bullying programs with the sales of Pink Shirt Day T-Shirts.
