Pink Shirt Day 2010 - April 14th

For 2010 we decided to move from our usual “last Wednesday of February” date for Pink Shirt Anti-Bullying Day in order to avoid conflicting with the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games scheduled for late February and early March of 2010.

This way we ensure we get as much media focus and participation as possible from our home base of Vancouver, BC.

So mark your calendars for Wednesday, April 14, 2010 when we hold our Third Annual Pink Shirt Anti-Bullying Day.

For 2010,  Boys & Girls Clubs across Canada will be participating in Pink Shirt Day and we anticipate adding more partners to make this the biggest anti-bullying awareness day in North America - if not the world!

Here is a PDF document you can share with your school, business, etc.

Stay tuned for more details.

    interesting stuff!

  2. Ashley Says:

I think this is a great idea, and I hope to get my school’s Student Representative Council involved with this. Let me know when the pink t-shirts are ready!

  3. Suzie Says:

I think this idea is ridiculous! Anti-Bullying day came from a day when a child was being verbally abused by his peers, and some other students stepped in to protect him, and let the others know that there is no place for bulling.

We are not going to Honour this day because….. why again?… oh right.. because it would be too inconvienient to have to wear pink shirts while the olympics is going on??????

People still need to get dressed that day anyways, but whatever is more convienient for the Vancouver Winter Games!

    Gimme a break!

  4. Jessica Says:

I totally agree with this idea!
This day will represent all of the victims of bullying and remind them that we are there to support them.

  5. Jessica Says:

Oh and by the way, I think that people with negative comments are just hypocrites that only think of themselves.. suzie

  6. Suzie Says:

Oh I absolutly support Anti-Bullying Day…. what I DO NOT support is changing the day from Feb to April… because it would conflict with the 2010 Olympics (which is the information this page represents… Jessica)

    Pasted from above…

Pay attention to what you are reading before you start the verbal abuse Jess… who is the hypocrite?

I agree. Pink Shirt Day is great but changing the date is ridiculous. Rather than getting more media attention you are going to get spilt media attention because some will still do it on the regular day and some won’t. Plus what better time to do it than when the world’s attention is on Canada. Having a national day that may catch the interest of the worlds press is a fantastic opportunity.

The home base may be in Vancouver but it is a Canada wide initiative started in Nova Scotia so changing the date for the Vancouver Olympics should just not happen.

  8. Laurie Says:

When will the posters be available for April 14, 2010??? And how do we order them?? Does anyone know?? Thanks!!

  9. Jagjot M Says:

    what are we cowards???

why are we changing our date: to avoid getting bullied by officials

I thought this day was about stopping bullying not about changing our official date
    because we’re scared

I am still going to wear pink on the last Weds of FEB

  10. Suzie Says:

So…. who can we get in touch with about this stuiped date change? The Boys and Girls Club have taken “Pink Shirt Day” and ran with it. Do they now check this site?

  11. Amy Says:

I think changing the date to April was a mistake. Why not wear pink on a day during the Olympics? Pink Shirt Day as well up “STAND UP” to Bullying Day are international events ~ the Olympics is an international event.

The next International STAND UP to Bullying Day is scheduled to take place on Friday, February 26th, 2010. If you don’t want to participate in April then I encourage you to join in on February 26th. See the link below for more information.

  12. candace Says:

There is nothing in the change of the pink shirt day that says you shouldn’t/couldn’t wear pink on the international day. The change makes it better for the BC schools as many students are absent for the games and it is more effective when most students show up wearing pink. Personally I don’t care when it is as it is a good idea whether it is in Feb. or Apr.

  13. Annie Says:

While I don’t think a date change was needed, I understand why it was done — in BC we want the most attention we can gather for the day — the Olympics would almost certainly have overshawdowed the event.

I will be promoting the day in April — and giving away over 100 pink shirts to local kids!

  14. Dort Arand Says:

We are going ahead on February 25 [in our workplace], we have a few bullies and we are going to stop them,..now!!!!!!!!!

  15. Donna Lucas Says:

Bullying is bullying! When I speak to children I remind them that in order to bring change and to stop unacceptable behaviour that it must start inside them first! I ask each child to look inside at what they see and then to look around and see what they would like to change! Remember the times you have walked away from someone and felt like you have been put down, picked on and examine that feeling! Do you want to make someone else feel like you do just now? Reflective thinking is awesome when it brings about change! I remind the adults htat they are bigger - in body and in voice - think about the child and how your approach is with each child in your life!

When can we order the pink shirts
How can we order the pink shirts

  17. Wendy Says:

I must say that most of the comments on this page are overwhelming and quite upsetting to read. I would have expected that the comments left on this website would be calm and supportive and not so tense. My hope is that this day will represent our wish for all kids to go to school on this one day and not worry or fear their peers in time I hope that I every day can be that way. Talk and listen and wear pink any day that you want to show support~ kids that are being bullied dont need the media to see them just one person that can stand up beside them.

  18. Jo-Ann Says:

I agree with Wendy that the comments on this page are upsetting and frankly ~ ridiculous.
I, for one, don’t have a problem with the date being changed…as long as people try to observe the date and bring on board as many people as they can.
The Olympic Hype has overshadowed many things, including the spirit of the Olympics themselves…so you can bet they would overshadow this budding & wonderful initiative. I am in Ottawa and the pink shirt day is barely known here. Now that I know the date has been pushed back it will actually give me, personally, a bit more time to get it together to get my community involved. So the delay is a good thing.
Bullying comes from angst, non-belonging, power and discord. Many of the posts I read above are full of those feelings. Instead of using energy to complain, how about channeling that energy into spreading the word what Pink Shirt Day is all about and that it is on April 14th, 2010. You have more time to spread the word…so get off your complaining butts and get out there.

  19. vanrich Says:

….an angry post about a date change for bullying…hilarious. I too thought that this would be a supportive board. It’s just full of anger instead of understanding. Funniest thing I’ve read today…I support the date change. At least now I know about the event.

  20. Kim Says:

We have 610 students at our school and would like everyone to where pink is $5.00 a shirt the lowest price or can you buy in bulk for a cheaper price?
