For 2010 we decided to move from our usual “last Wednesday of February” date for Pink Shirt Anti-Bullying Day in order to avoid conflicting with the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games scheduled for late February and early March of 2010.
This way we ensure we get as much media focus and participation as possible from our home base of Vancouver, BC.
So mark your calendars for Wednesday, April 14, 2010 when we hold our Third Annual Pink Shirt Anti-Bullying Day.
For 2010, Boys & Girls Clubs across Canada will be participating in Pink Shirt Day and we anticipate adding more partners to make this the biggest anti-bullying awareness day in North America - if not the world!
Here is a PDF document you can share with your school, business, etc.
Stay tuned for more details.

interesting stuff!

I think this is a great idea, and I hope to get my school’s Student Representative Council involved with this. Let me know when the pink t-shirts are ready!
November 20th, 2009 at 3:50 pm
I think this idea is ridiculous! Anti-Bullying day came from a day when a child was being verbally abused by his peers, and some other students stepped in to protect him, and let the others know that there is no place for bulling.
We are not going to Honour this day because….. why again?… oh right.. because it would be too inconvienient to have to wear pink shirts while the olympics is going on??????
People still need to get dressed that day anyways, but whatever is more convienient for the Vancouver Winter Games!
Gimme a break!
November 21st, 2009 at 7:15 pm
I totally agree with this idea!
This day will represent all of the victims of bullying and remind them that we are there to support them.
November 21st, 2009 at 7:15 pm
Oh and by the way, I think that people with negative comments are just hypocrites that only think of themselves.. suzie
December 20th, 2009 at 2:30 pm
Oh I absolutly support Anti-Bullying Day…. what I DO NOT support is changing the day from Feb to April… because it would conflict with the 2010 Olympics (which is the information this page represents… Jessica)
Pasted from above…

Pay attention to what you are reading before you start the verbal abuse Jess… who is the hypocrite?

I agree. Pink Shirt Day is great but changing the date is ridiculous. Rather than getting more media attention you are going to get spilt media attention because some will still do it on the regular day and some won’t. Plus what better time to do it than when the world’s attention is on Canada. Having a national day that may catch the interest of the worlds press is a fantastic opportunity.
The home base may be in Vancouver but it is a Canada wide initiative started in Nova Scotia so changing the date for the Vancouver Olympics should just not happen.
January 29th, 2010 at 7:40 pm
When will the posters be available for April 14, 2010??? And how do we order them?? Does anyone know?? Thanks!!
February 1st, 2010 at 8:26 pm
what are we cowards???
why are we changing our date: to avoid getting bullied by officials
I thought this day was about stopping bullying not about changing our official date
because we’re scared
I am still going to wear pink on the last Weds of FEB
February 4th, 2010 at 9:12 pm
So…. who can we get in touch with about this stuiped date change? The Boys and Girls Club have taken “Pink Shirt Day” and ran with it. Do they now check this site?
February 5th, 2010 at 2:11 pm
I think changing the date to April was a mistake. Why not wear pink on a day during the Olympics? Pink Shirt Day as well up “STAND UP” to Bullying Day are international events ~ the Olympics is an international event.
The next International STAND UP to Bullying Day is scheduled to take place on Friday, February 26th, 2010. If you don’t want to participate in April then I encourage you to join in on February 26th. See the link below for more information.

February 17th, 2010 at 8:11 am
There is nothing in the change of the pink shirt day that says you shouldn’t/couldn’t wear pink on the international day. The change makes it better for the BC schools as many students are absent for the games and it is more effective when most students show up wearing pink. Personally I don’t care when it is as it is a good idea whether it is in Feb. or Apr.
February 18th, 2010 at 3:43 pm
While I don’t think a date change was needed, I understand why it was done — in BC we want the most attention we can gather for the day — the Olympics would almost certainly have overshawdowed the event.
I will be promoting the day in April — and giving away over 100 pink shirts to local kids!
February 20th, 2010 at 8:19 pm
We are going ahead on February 25 [in our workplace], we have a few bullies and we are going to stop them,..now!!!!!!!!!

Bullying is bullying! When I speak to children I remind them that in order to bring change and to stop unacceptable behaviour that it must start inside them first! I ask each child to look inside at what they see and then to look around and see what they would like to change! Remember the times you have walked away from someone and felt like you have been put down, picked on and examine that feeling! Do you want to make someone else feel like you do just now? Reflective thinking is awesome when it brings about change! I remind the adults htat they are bigger - in body and in voice - think about the child and how your approach is with each child in your life!
February 22nd, 2010 at 12:43 pm
When can we order the pink shirts
How can we order the pink shirts
February 23rd, 2010 at 10:10 pm
I must say that most of the comments on this page are overwhelming and quite upsetting to read. I would have expected that the comments left on this website would be calm and supportive and not so tense. My hope is that this day will represent our wish for all kids to go to school on this one day and not worry or fear their peers in time I hope that I every day can be that way. Talk and listen and wear pink any day that you want to show support~ kids that are being bullied dont need the media to see them just one person that can stand up beside them.
February 26th, 2010 at 7:27 am
I agree with Wendy that the comments on this page are upsetting and frankly ~ ridiculous.
I, for one, don’t have a problem with the date being changed…as long as people try to observe the date and bring on board as many people as they can.
The Olympic Hype has overshadowed many things, including the spirit of the Olympics themselves…so you can bet they would overshadow this budding & wonderful initiative. I am in Ottawa and the pink shirt day is barely known here. Now that I know the date has been pushed back it will actually give me, personally, a bit more time to get it together to get my community involved. So the delay is a good thing.
Bullying comes from angst, non-belonging, power and discord. Many of the posts I read above are full of those feelings. Instead of using energy to complain, how about channeling that energy into spreading the word what Pink Shirt Day is all about and that it is on April 14th, 2010. You have more time to spread the word…so get off your complaining butts and get out there.
March 2nd, 2010 at 5:16 pm
….an angry post about a date change for bullying…hilarious. I too thought that this would be a supportive board. It’s just full of anger instead of understanding. Funniest thing I’ve read today…I support the date change. At least now I know about the event.
March 3rd, 2010 at 8:09 am
We have 610 students at our school and would like everyone to where pink is $5.00 a shirt the lowest price or can you buy in bulk for a cheaper price?
March 23rd, 2010 at 9:04 am
Bullying isn’t just for kids in school. Those kids who bully are also bullies as adults. .This needs to be focused on as well.
Those adults who are in higher management roles and bully their staff need to be dealt with as well. They have a tendancy to make workplaces difficult to work in.
March 27th, 2010 at 10:48 am
For you who are saying that it’s wrong to have changed the date, YOUR STUPID! If the date was to be kept in februray during the olypmics do you really think the media would even focus on us? No. They are way to focused on the olypmics to even pay attention to us. It’s a good the date changed to april because now we’ll have all the attention on us.
March 29th, 2010 at 2:22 am
A few years ago, I worked at a school who wanted to change our Earth Day celebration to Friday, because having it on Tuesday was too much of a disruption to the school and students. I fought them (RESPECTFULLY AND TACTFULLY) and sent home the message that we are environmentalists ALL the time, not just when it is convenient for us, and that we should send the right message to our kids… that even when things are busy, and inconvenient, we must do what is right. We had our Earth Day celebration on the Tuesday, and it was GREAT!
And I am sorry if you think I am “stupid” (great post for an anti-bullying website btw) for saying how I feel.
That said, we should be working toward Anti bullying day and Earth day and all such days being EVERY DAY.
In peace,
Wendi

Many harsh and judgemental comments here, which isn’t getting this wonderful day off to the great start it needs to be successful. I also disagree with the date. It should be held at the start of the school year before everyone forms into groups, before kids start excluding each other, before decisions are made about appearances instead of personalities. With only 10 weeks remaining in the year, most of the damage has already been done. September or October would be much better, and the two young men who started “Everyone Wear Pink”, David Shepherd and Travis Price (two of my hero’s) have also suggested it. Also, I can’t understand why Canada’s BEST Child Information website on the topic of “Bullying” is http://www.deal.org and hasn’t been listed or invited to participate in this wonderful day. It’s the RCMP Youth website and they know what they are talking about!
Even so, I support this day with all my heart. Our ENTIRE family will be in PINK head to toe, from my daughter to her Grandparents, and we will be flying a pink flag on our lawn. Good Luck to all involved.

I think moving the day is a fantastic idea and certainly does not display any cowardice. Wearing pink further away from Valentine’s Day will hi-light the change more than anything. Wearing pink in February is easy - it’s safe. Wearing pink in April is much more noticeable and will create a much bigger statement.
April 9th, 2010 at 5:32 pm
Can i just say that it breaks my heart to look and this page, expecting to see posts about the events people plan to do and the things they have done. Not people fighting with strangers about the fact that the date was changed. Is it a big deal? I don’t think so. It simply means that instead of sharing media time with the biggest event to hit Canada, we get a day all to ourselves. Hoping to put this discussion back on track, my high school of 1400 people plan to sign a huge white sheet with our anti-bullying messages and send it… that put is still in talks.
Love and Peace,
Cassie

I love the idea of Pink Shirt Day! As a former victim of high school bullying, I find it reassuring that our communities have found a way to help fight back by raising awareness. Bullying was rampant in my high school (the Zero Tolerance policy was an absolute joke!) and going to teachers and councillors got me nowhere, but when I got togeather with a strong group of friends in a similar situation, we managed to stand up to our bullies and get the respect and equality that we deserved from our peers.
The message needs to be put out there, bullying exists, and it HURTS. A LOT. We need to raise awareness in our schools and communities. I’ll be wearing my Pink Shirt to work
April 12th, 2010 at 8:46 pm
the date is irrelvant - what is relevant is that it is done. I am glad it was changed because there was just too much going on in Feb. and this cause deserves a Day and a time of it’s own. It is too important to get lost in other headlines. Congrats to all the great youth and adults out there committed to this cause. What is beautiful is the number of children 8 and under - they are the ones that will make the next generation a great one and who will get this message best. Great work kids!!
April 12th, 2010 at 10:11 pm
Is this connected to Day of Pink?
April 13th, 2010 at 1:39 pm
I think that the whole pink shirt thing is a great idea, but it would be better the if the shirts arrived atleast one day before the event.
April 13th, 2010 at 4:10 pm
I feel that the agressive responses and name calling in regards to the date change are counter productive. Let’s not be bullies ourselves with our opinions and join together to support this very important message.
Bullies hurt not because they are hurting themselves…..they Bully because they know they can get away with it. “Awareness and Accountability” from the child to the adult and from the employee to emplorer are the two vanguards to success!!!!
Much love and respect.
April 13th, 2010 at 5:31 pm
Too much hangup on which day it is. The great thing is that there’s A DAY, and that day, whichever day that is, should be acknowledged! This day is about peace and and acceptance, so lets be united on Wed, Apr 14, 2010 AND any and every other day we personally choose!

What a blog post!! Very informative and easy to understand. Looking for more such writeups!! Do you have a myspace or a facebook?
I recommended it on digg. The only thing that it’s missing is a bit of new design. However thank you for this information.
